Hi Parents of P5/P6 Students,
As a tutor working closely with Primary 5 and 6 students, I’ve seen how much effort goes into preparing for the PSLE. But even with the best intentions and solid revision, many students still lose marks due to avoidable mistakes in their Math papers. These mistakes often don’t reflect a lack of ability—just a lack of awareness. That’s why I always make it a point to address these issues head-on with my students.
One of the biggest culprits is simple miscalculation. It’s surprisingly common for students to get the concept right but lose marks just because of a small numerical error. This usually happens when they rush through their work or skip key working steps. I will remind students to slow down just enough to check your steps as you go, and use the last few minutes of the paper to review your answers with a fresh pair of eyes.
Another common mistake is misreading numbers or questions. When you’re nervous or racing against the clock, it’s easy to confuse a 16 for a 19, or miss out on an important part of the question. That’s why I train my students to underline keywords and read questions twice—especially just before putting down the answer. Speed is important, but accuracy makes the real difference.
Student Progress will be assessed periodically to adjust from improvements and weaknesses!
